Gaza
My time spent in Jordan and Palestine studying Arabic has made the war in Gaza particularly acute for me. This is apparent in the ongoing series of dark painitngs from the Bone Fire Series and especially in these later more fiery ones.
The first small watercolors I did of branches (not documented on the website) brought to mind Arabic calligraphy and the ornamentation based on the natural world that is seen in Arab architecture that we saw while living in Spain. And, of course, I can’t discount our visits to the Prado where the dark paintings from the Quinta del Sordo and the increasingly relevant etchings from the Disasters of War are housed.
